Interphone Sync55 Smartphone Connection System I bought this after months of deliberating and reading reviews. Eventually went for it as an alternative to a dedicated bike sat nav, as these can be really expensive. This basically uses either apple car play or android to project your phone apps on to the screen and you can use certain features/apps from your phone on this device, meaning you can lock your expensive phone away in your luggage or keep it in your waterproof pockets.
The device feels well made and the resolution/colours get no complaints from me. The size of icons can be altered as can the brightness. The range of apps it displays are limited, but enough for me (phone, messages, WhatsApp, music, maps, Waze etc) and I don’t fiddle with apps while riding anyway. The device size is decent. About the size of an iPhone 11. The screen sometimes doesn’t respond to a press off a gloved finger, but as above, I don’t tend to fiddle around while riding.
The mount is a bit clunky and lets this down, hence the 3 stars. It sometimes takes some messing with to get the device on/off and there does seem to be a bit of play or ‘rattle’ between the device and where it mounts. But the connection between the two seems solid, so no suggestion the device will work loose while riding.
The mount is tightened on to your bike using a turning arm that sits UNDERNEATH. This makes it so awkward to tighten up when space and access on handle bars can be limited. Why not put the arm on top or use Allen keys, which would mean not having the intrusive tightening arm and the mount couldn’t be unscrewed by anyone. The ability to have the mounting arm extend towards you would be good as this means the device would sit higher off the handle bars and comfortably clear the fuel tank if you mount it in the middle of the bars. The mount comes with spacers for different handle bar diameters.
It comes with a usb-c to usb-a cable (usb-a being what connects to your power output) and a wiring loom to connect direct to the bike. It says the device only powers using usb-c to A….but I’ve used a USB-c to C cable and it work fine. The device needs direct power and does not hold charge. Keep this in mind if you don’t have a socket or inclination to wire it in. I’ve not wired it in yet, but probably will do in the long term. It powers up quickly and connects to my phone and intercom without drama.
I’d like to see it come with a soft case and although waterproof (only used so far in light rain), a rain cover/poncho would be a nice addition.
In time I’d may add more stars once it’s done a few more miles on the bike. Overall it’s a great idea and means you can keep your phone tucked away. So even if you walk off and forget to take this off the bike, at least it’s not your brand new mega expensive phone left out on display.
I’d recommend this as a well priced alternative to a day-to-day sat nav and the ease of having other apps in front of you. Not hugely expensive for what it is as there’s much more expensive devices out there.
Oxford 12V Horn Bought this as a spare to replace the malfunctioning OEM horn on my machine. Exact replacement. Really easy to fit and usual Oxford quality. Comes with the fitting plates and screws/bolts. For the low price, I keep this on the shelf in the garage in case the new horn I’ve fitted were to ever stop working so I’ve got something in to quickly swap out for an MOT or just in general.
Denali 2.0 Premium Wiring Harness Kit This went nicely with the pair of Denali DL4 lights which I also sourced from SBS. The harness is quite chunky and gives plenty of confidence it'll remain intact and waterproof wherever it's fitted. I found a bit of a challenge to get the relay part of the kit tucked away (as it is a somewhat bulky element) however that's a "per bike" consideration as each make/model will be different.
Regardless, the option of adhesive vs bracket is nice - I found which fit best and it's snugly fitted in place, easily in reach. This however is where I do knock off one star - as I've found regardless of thinner Summer or Winter gloves I find it a bit awkward to flick on or off. This is due to the switch being both small and slightly recessed under the transparent cover - so tactile and easy to feel it ain't!
A good solid stab does the trick, but it's not an easy affair (arguably given how often you're likely to even flick it on/off this is a non-issue).
This aside, it's a small complaint - but valid for a £100+ harness and it's only a shame there isn't a choice of buttons or a way to easily wire it into an existing harness for factory-fitted aux lights to turn all on together.
