Verified Customer Reviews for Kriega R30 Back Pack
Customers generally find the rucksack to be well-constructed, durable, and ideal for biking, with a solid waterproof main compartment. While many praise the comfort, sturdy material, and excellent weight distribution, there are some concerns about the lack of inner pockets and the inconvenience of the strap system. Some reviews mentioned that outer pockets are not waterproof, and the bag is considered pricey. Despite its cost, customers believe the quality and features justify the investment.
Bought it for long weekend trip to Belgium and France on my super naked. Didn't want to go panniers or top box way. I was not disappointed at all. Did 900 miles in various conditions including being caught in a torrential rain for 3 hours on day 1. Content of main compartment stayed bone dry throughout the journey. Contents of Two outer pockets also remained mostly dry although not advertised as waterproof. As far as comfort I was also pleasantly surprised. Didn't weigh the backpack before setting out but it was quite weighty with enough stuff for 3 nights. I did not feel the pressure on my shoulders at all thanks to the unique quad lock system used by Kriega. Additionally I purchased Kriega pouch that goes on either strap to have easy access to my phone and wallet. This also worked very well but made a mistake of keeping my passport in the pouch during the downpour and it did get wet. Mind you - pouch is not advertised as waterproof so totally my fault. Otherwise pouch really helped me with easy access to my wallet when stopping to pay for tolls or fuel in France. Overall I'm very happy with both R30 backpack and a pouch from Kriega. Now I know I can travel/ tour on my super naked! Thank you SBS and thank you Kriega.
One of the great features of this bag is that compresses down to quite a manageable size when you dont need the full capacity. When you do fill it, its pretty big, but not overly so.
The outer pockets, especially the bottom one, hold a lot and the main compartment holds a decent amount too; you just need to allow enough space at the top for the roll-top to close down.
One thing to bear in mind is that in the product description it says you can use the attachment loops to attach US-5 or US10 drypacks to the bag - this was only on the older model; you cannot do this on this new model; there are no attachment loops (I double-checked with Kriega on this one).
Great bag overall and the load-bearing strap system is excellent
Fits comfortably plenty of adjustment very well made. Dropped 1 star due to relatively high price.
Not waterproof as expected, only the main pocket is that and the two front pockets will take in water.
Very good back pack for use on a motorbike. I've been using it for commuting to work with a fairly hefty laptop (38 x 25 cm) some work cloths and a litelock moto in the main compartment. there's even room for some bits and pieces from the shop.
The straps do a good job of distributing the weight of the pack, it doesn't feel like it weighs me down when riding.
If I have any criticisms it's that the main compartment is only a single space, and the strap system is difficult to adjust, but these are pretty insignificant compared to the tough quality of the backpack and the 10 year warranty
No doubt it is a quality rucksack. It definitely could do with some inside pockets. Have to mark it down on the lack of separation on the waterproof main storage area. It is very robust and should take allot of abuse but then your paying for it in abundance. I am going to recommend this as it should last the distance
What a bag it well made and there is nothing else like it even fully loaded you can't really tell it's on your back
I used the rucksack almost immediately in the pouring rain and everything remained as dry as it went in when originally packed.
I love the side-straps and how easy they make the fit to your body perfect. 10 put of 10 from me.
Well built and solid - I'm using it for commuting and it's been dry. Ample space in the front zip pockets
I have tried a few bags on my bike, prior to this bag I had a mil Tec military bag which was great except for the not being waterproof. After having to dry things inside too many times I decided to go for this one. After torrential rain I can confirm the contents were dry. Also the quad lock system is great bag is in an ideal position for riding. If you commute by bike all year round I 100% recommend.
I've had this backpack for a month or so now. It's quite good. It seems very durable, bla bla... I honestly feel it's to expensive. The main issue is the outer bag is not waterproof but the inner liner is. It's happened twice where it's been so wet that the bag is still sodden the next day. I was expecting better when it arrived.
I bike to the station everyday with a rucksack containing a laptop, drink etc.
A la Clarkson we start with a the downsides;
Very heavy empty, probably due to the robust material and construction. Not a huge main compartment once you get the laptop + charger etc in. You need to think about the location placement of items because it takes a minute or two to get said main compartment by undoing 3 clips and unroling the top. Doesn't sit very comfortably on your back when not on a bike. I'm 5'9" and find the pack is low on my back with everything tightened as much as possible.
Excellent points;
Waterproof as stated. The back insert pocket means you don't need one under or in your jacket which I find to be a massive plus. (And possibly why there is less room in the main compartment, but worth it).
Lower back placement of pack when on a bike is excellant and lowers the centre of gravity making life savers easier to perform. 2 Buckle harness connectors a huge improvemnt on traditional rucksack clips.
Taken togethor, I would recommend this bag to anyone. Very pleased with the purchase.
Build quality is excellent, the main compartment is watertight and large enough for laptops, clothes etc. The material is tough and looks like it will last well. Straps are large and easy to get on over leathers. The quadlock system holds the backpack in place perfectly! Can recommend!
Was advised to check Kriega out when looking for a waterproof biking back pack. Not disappointed, great piece of kit, I literally forget I have it on when riding. Loads of space. I did buy the additional Harness Pocket but to be honest its actually too small to fit a new smartphone in or a wallet, ok for change, notes and cards only, probably should of got the XL version. Buy the Pack though!
Used once (so far) on a longish trip into France. Roomy and reasonably comfortable to wear. Construction appears sturdy and long wearing. Concur with others that the price is steep, but if it lasts, it should be worth it in the end.
Worth the money should last a lifetime good quality
Excellent pack, and fantastic service and fast delivery as always
I have looked and been tempted by the Kriega Packs for years but always felt they were overpriced. I ride daily, not a 4wheel tin can owner so bike is life. I have always just used a normal rucksack and survived ok. Recently I was working near the Sportsbikeshop shop in Milton Keynes so thought I'd head in for a wander.
Initially I picked up the R15 and R20 and was immediately impressed by the quality. Spoke with the staff who then brought out the R25 and R30 to look at.
This R30 is leaps and bounds ahead. Waterproof, which I can vouch for after back to back 200mile journeys where the bike doubled up as a jet ski. It is huge when fully loaded, I have got enough stuf in it to go away for 4nights including bulky items such as hiking boots, laptop, and trainers as well as normal clothes. But, what I love is that if u don't need the space, 3 pairs of compression straps can collapse it down as small as u need. The roll top closure system at the top is better than any drawstring or zip.
The quad lock system...one word..life changing, it really does totally take the weight and pressure off the shoulders, something I always found after prolonged riding with a standard rucksack. Once it's fitted u don't have to loosen and adjust each time you wear it, it just fits. And u step into more like a parachute harness rather than trying to fold your bulky armoured arms through normal rucksack straps.
Off of the bike, after filling the pack for a weekend away hiking, a long ride down to meet the mrs, I then dismounted and used it for a weekends hiking and even then it has just ticked all the right boxes, a little adjustment to fit my unarmoured body and it just felt...right.
I have just ordered the small utility pouch as this will be a welcome addition. The R30 quality is simply outstanding, 10yr warranty, and it just feels solid.
This pack alone has got me seriously considering the kriega soft luggage for my bike simply on quality and practicality.
Great shop staff and great rucksack. If u are tempted...bits the bullet, it's worth every penny.
