Harlow Team A*

This was a vanity purchase to match new bike as I already owned an X5. The service as always for the Harlow team was excellent. The X5 is great and a real improvement from the X4.

Bit of a let down
22 October 2024 by Wil S
After wearing Arai helmets for over 20 years I can regrettably say the X5 is a bit of a let down. I find it very noisy compared to the X4, visor seal isn't amazing and the top vent rattles when closed to the point I thought something was falling off my bike. We checked other new X5s in store and all the vents have the same issue. Sportsbikeshop staff & service top notch as always just a poor show from Arai. I will definitely be considering a different brand in the near future.

Excellent, excellent helmet
19 August 2024 by Alan
Had the Tour x 4, & the Klim Krios Pro and this helmet is better. Not a slight as the Klim but much quieter.

Great visor, the peak is less prone to wind than the X4.

Well recommended.

Not what I expected unfortunately
08 August 2024 by Steve H
I have own the Arai Tour X 4 for a number of years and it was great. I decided to bite the bullet and purchase the Tour X 5 because I was due a new helmet.
Firstly the Pinlock wouldn't sit in the visor properly so I returned it. Eventually it needed a new visor and Pinlock. Then the top vent on the helmet constantly rattled. Returned again and it was fixed. Then one of the cheek pads came loose and wouldn't go back properly. Whilst trying to locate it I noticed the stitching coming loose and unraveling. The whole quality of the internals of the helmet are poor. If you look at the Arai RX7 interior it is far better.
The helmet is quiet enough and the new rounder visor gives good all round vision.
I just feel like Arai have built the helmet to a budget and charged a high quality price.

I'm being picky - Happy with the helmet
29 July 2024 by Chris K
It's an Arai, so safety as standard. It is a very comfortable helmet and the peak is well designed so I do not feel any real buffeting (even when looking to the side at speed).

The channeling for cables and the prefit velcro pads for the microphone are brilliant, fitting my Packtalk Pro coms unit was a dream. Ear pockets fit the 45mm JBL speakers easily.

The visibility/ field of view is brilliant and the pinlock seals well. I prefer not having the brow vents.

The vent channeling from the chin bar vent to the visor works well.

Removing / replacing the visor and peak for maintenance/ cleaning is a doddle.

The only minor thing (which I find is an Arai thing) is that they don't really have detents for the visor, so a large gust of wind can push the visor down / closed. (It has to be quite a gust / high speed wind).

Really happy with it.

Extremely comfortable
07 June 2024 by Nick
Bought the Arai Tour x5 to replace a Schuberth that was damaged in a minor fall on gravel. Tried on over a dozen different helmets before finding this was the most comfortable. Bristol shop staff very, very helpful with testing the fit. The team also fitted a Cardo Packtalk edge for me - all part of the excellent service.

The helmet isn't the quietest but zero drag from the peak and so comfortable that I wore it for two full days of riding the day after buying it. My only criticism is that the fastening strap (two D-ring type) could be longer to allow easy on/off without fully unfastening it every time you take it off.

Overall, a great product complemented by great service from the great manager and staff at the Bristol shop.

I love it!
14 May 2024 by Geoff B
I was in the market for an adventure helmet and already own other Arai helmets. I tried on several other brands in store (including the older TX4 Arai model) but the TX5 fitted like a glove, so comfort and style won me over in the end.

The high price tag put me off at first but I trust the Arai brand for quality and safety so decided to pay the extra.

I have just returned from an 800 mile UK trip and could not fault the new helmet. My Sena 50R intercom was easy to fit, comfort and ventilation is good, high speed buffeting because of the peak was not really noticeable and I was able to change the visor to light smoked with ease.

As always, the SBS Reading in store and online experience was excellent.

Tour X5, good but not great.
12 May 2024 by John C
Bought the Tour X5 after looking at a lot of different helmets.
I wanted a peak to help against sun glare, and wanted comfort as well.
Out of all the adventure style peaked helmets the Tour X5 was the most comfortable for me.
The Tour X5 is well balanced and feels a lot lighter to wear than my previous helmet a HJC I90, even though they are both labelled at 1700g.
The visor quality is excellent with a wide field of view, and the included pinlock 120XLT covers the whole visor and doesn't impede your vision.
Visor changes are very easy to do, and doesn't require any tools as the peak can be left attached to the side plates while changing the visor.
Airflow is good without any pressure points, but it does mean there is a lot of noise, not painful to hear but earplugs are recommended.
The peak I've had to remove as I was getting horrendous drumming and vibration, enough to blur my vision, from the screen on my Triumph Tiger 900. This was with the screen set in any position. Just for clarity I'm 5ft9 and the screen is the standard one on the bike. The airflow over the screen combined with my height must put the buffeted air at peak level, crouching down a bit or standing up stopped the buffeting. A new screen is on order for the bike, but haven't received it yet to say whether this will mean I can wear the Tour X5 with the peak again.
The liner is very comfortable and feels plush against your face and head, although I do think the cheek pads and neck roll should have been level all the way around the lower helmet. There is a section where the cheek pads raise up into the helmet, just behind the ear, leaving a gap between the neck roll and cheek pads, which is where I think some wind noise comes from.
Fitting my Cardo packtalk was easy to do, with cable storage in the neck roll, but did take some repeat attempts to get the speakers just right for my ears, the speaker apertures in the helmet allow for plenty of adjustment.
Overall I'm very happy with the Tour X5, it's a good helmet but not great due to the peak buffeting ( but that could be my height and bikes factory screen) and the cheek pad/ neck roll gap.
I would recommend this helmet, as it is well balanced and very comfortable.

Spoilt by rattle
27 April 2024 by Bob
The helmet is very comfortable and nice fit. However the top vent rattles all the time when riding. I will be speaking to Arai to see what they propose.

Typical Arai

The usual fit and finish for an Arai. Incredibly comfortable, brilliant levels of ventilation. Wind noise is acceptable for a peaked helmet (with ear plug use). Replacement visors are not cheap though !

Arai Tour X5 - Discovery White
25 April 2024 by Chris H
The helmet so far feels Light, comfortable. Visibility is good. Not taken on a long ride yet though.

Only downside which loses a star or possibly two. The helmet at the back is very low, so with the battery of the intercom installed rubs/ snags against my jacket collar which is really annoying and potentially dangerous. The other, the pinlocks that came with the helmet was too long by 1-2mm. I bought another pinlock and put that in the smoke grey visor I bought separately and that fits perfectly, so not sure what going on there.

Really great helmet - Comfortable and secure
08 April 2024 by Sam C
The Arai Tour X5 is my first Arai helmet and coming from somewhat cheaper and 'simpler' helmets, I understand what the hype is about. The first thing I noticed is it extremely comfortable, and can be worn for hours and at length without developing any of the typical discomforts you get on cheaper helmets. For me, the additional ear space they leave is so nice, as I don't have to reach a finger up between my cheek and helmet to push my ears back - they're ready to go. Even with an intercom fitted too, there is space.

Good at speed, a little fluttering but not too bad. Plenty of vents, strong double-D ring, and the visor resistance, adjustment points and 'pop-close' lock are nice touches. Again, this is from someone who is coming from cheaper helmets.

I haven't tried removing the peak yet, but both YouTube and the provided instructions show that is easy enough. It is also relatively easy to remove cheek pads and lining to fit an intercom yourself.

Would recommend!

Tour X5 so far….
05 April 2024 by Clive R
The Tour X5 is a significant improvement step from the X4, especially in respect to ventilation. Wind buffering has reduced, but at 6' 3" I'm going to struggle to avoid any wind blast. Only gripe is the internal chin vent, it's next to impossible to adjust with helmet on and gloves on.

Feels robust
18 March 2024 by TJ
With the new 22.06 regulations, I believe most helmets have increased in weight somewhat, and this is no lightweight, but it feels incredibly robust.

I changed from a 7 year old Shoei Hornet which has served me well and just wanted to try an Arai for a change. Quality is similar, although I reckon that the Shoei interior is of a higher standard. It is possible to tailor the thickness of the padding by removing 5mm strips inside designed for the purpose - but they don't stick back again if you make a mistake!

The visor and peak removal system is simplicity itself and fairly quick, should you want to play around with the different styles to match the different bikes in your garage!

I installed a Cardo Edge system in the helmet and it fits easily. The interior actually has routing systems for the wires and the speaker recesses are very deep allowing the speakers to sit well into the helmet and still not touch your ears.

Venting is very good - with everything open, in clean air there is a real flow through with the attendant noise. Easily rectified by closing off a few vents.

The included pinock is massive and fits right to the edge.

It's expensive, but it depends on how much you value your head. The build quality means it will last a while - longer than the theoretical 5 year lifespan.

Arai tour x5

Wow what a great helmet.

Never owned an Arai before but knew they were top notch, the quality and fit are superb.

You can see by just looking at it that it's a top of the line helmet. I found it very quiet when riding too.
10/10 from me.

Other improvements include a completely new ventilation system. The ventilation system of the Tour-X5 is the second model to feature the 3D logo duct, previously introduced on the Quantic. Complemented by an AR Spoiler and the latest iteration of the Delta Duct, the Delta Duct 6, the Tour-X5 also features a redesigned chin vent. The ventilation system of the Tour-X5 will have ample airflow to keep you cool no matter what, so don't sweat it.

On the inside, the interior is fully removable, with an adjustable pad at the rear of the crown pad. A redesigned nose deflector will make the use of goggles easy. FCS cheek pads will give a firm fit both on- and off-road.
