Alpinestars ST-7 Gore-Tex Jacket - Black / Dark Grey

I chose a medium as I am a 42 inch chest which fits me perfectly, I wouldn't say it's the warmest jacket and you may be need a heated vest but quality seems very good haven't tried it out in the rain but it's laminated and go text so shouldn't let you down, go for a medium back protector

Very pleased with this jacket & trouser combo. Very good quality but make sure you know what type of gear you're buying.

Waterproofing is top tier. Ridden in torrential downpour and I was 100% dry top & bottom & with it being laminate goretex I wasn't a dripping sponge at the other end, could almost shake the garments dry.

Comfort is fantastic too, before this I tried a cheaper brand non-goretex laminate. Poor quality meant it leaked out the box so that got sent back. Always go goretex if you want to reliably be dry, quality control much more rigorous than own-brands. The cheaper garment was heavy and cumbersome, almost had to fight against the gear moving on the bike & shoulder checking. Not this Alpinestars, mobility is excellent.

I would say it's warm enough, I've commuted 50 minutes in single digits and was fine. My point on knowing what you're buying is that laminate gear is by default colder than a drop liner waterproof item. This jacket is definitely not as warm as the drop liner Rukka it's replacing, but that can be remedied by what you wear underneath, so a bit of a trade-off due to product type not specific to this garment.

Two exterior pockets can be a faff to get in due to full-length velcro but a minor issue, at least you know your stuff wont fall out but would have preferred a zip.

Sizing is spot on, I'm a medium in everything and M in this was perfect. Good armour upgrade options too for chest & back.

Good - It fits well and is a comfortable jacket.

Bad - I could feel coldness against my forearms and my neck was also cold. This jacket, even with the liner in was not that warm and you will definitely need some base layers with it. Also the zip for the trousers is a real pain to reach and it's a really thin zip which I can't see lasting long, why they put such a thin zip on this is beyond me,

So I started with an oxford jacket that ripped upon first use just taking my arm out, so I decided to double my investment and go for the latest Alpinestars. What I found was that the cheaper jacket was warmer and zipped together much easier with much chunkier zips too.

Still early days with it and I am still layering up with merino base layers and a heated inner jacket, but so far I'd have to say I'm still not sure about this one yet. The zip issue is a real pain for me and I need to be warmer in this jacket.
