Schuberth C4 Basic - Matt Black

This is a well made, good quality helmet. The interior is really plush and comfortable and looks good quality.
I've not ridden with it on yet, so I can't comment on the noise level but it looks well sealed around the neck, so it should be quiet.
It feels reasonably light for a flip up helmet.
As always, it's all about the fit, and that will vary from person to person.
What a pity they called it "Basic" and put the name on the back of the helmet! I believe that the only difference to the pro version is that the pro has the radio mic and earpiece built in. But please check this before buying.

Very comfortable with lots of soft padding in all the right places. Less wind noise than my previous flip face helmet and a decent size visor with pinlock included. I have already recommended it to a friend.

I purchased this based on outher reviews etc. The size guide was spot on and was happy to find that it is a perfect fit. The helmet has a really plush lining that is so smooth on your cheeks.

The ventilation and opening chin piece work flawlessly. This is by far the quietest and most comfortable helmet I have ever owned.

If I could give a higher score than 5 I would. The Scheuberth C4 Basic is way better than just excellent. Now all we need is a good mount for GoPro cameras and life would be perfection personified.

Checked the internet reviews & it seems the C4 suits 'oval heads' rather than round or square, I consider that matched me. Measured my head at just under 58, size guide says 'err on the side of small', my current helmet is 57-58 (M) (not Schuberth), so went for 57 (M). When arrived & tried it, it felt snug perhaps too snug. The size guide says 'the lining will give over time' so thought would wear it around the house a bit - my wife thought I was a bit odd, the dogs were not too sure either! Each time I took it off though my head felt it had been released & I felt an hour or so of riding could become torture!
Do I try the next size 59 (L)? Set the tape to 59 & tried it round my head & thought this will be too loose. As it was now not too long before Motorcycle Live I thought I would try some helmets there. Tried a few on & the C4 size 59 felt right, the retailer checked the fit in several ways & said it was good. Got back home & ordered the 59 from SBS (sorry retailer, but SBS were cheaper anyway). It arrived the next day (I ordered at 5-30pm & helmet arrived 11-30am next day - standard delivery!). Anyway, it instantly felt the right fit.
Wearing it on the bike with my moulded earplugs & I did not think it was that much quieter than my old helmet, which was disappointing. I had tried foam plugs with my old helmet but had to get moulded ones to avoid my head buzzing from wind noise after an hour or so of riding. Tried the C4 without earplugs & there came the surprise, it was only a bit noisier than with earplugs & quiet enough not to need earplugs at all (wind noise is minimal & you can hear the bike clearer). Have now ridden several times without earplugs & the comfort & noise levels are fine.
Returning the first helmet to SBS was simple, excellent service from SBS - as always.

Great quality helmet which came fitted with an Pinlock 120 visor insert. Very comfy and easy to fit Sena S5 comms into. Should give years of solid service.

Replacement for my C3, fits well and is very comfortable.

I wanted a helmet that fitted well and a flip front helmet that had a sun visor that I could use my Cardo Packtalk Bold with. This excellent quality helmet works very well with my list and is very quiet.

This is the first Schuberth lid I've had and I am very pleased with my purchase, Schuberth's sizing guide was spot on, minor wind noise but it is not a problem and in many cases just as quiet and comfy as the full face it's replacing. Very snug at the moment but I'm sure with time the padding will give a little. Good, solid features and very easy to use, definitely recommended and good value (cheaper than Neotec 2).

I tried the Neotec II, but it didn't give me £100 worth of improvements over the Schuberth.

Bell was my other choice but only a couple of shell sizes, meaning my size was all padding.

The C4 gives me quality, comfort and great noise suppression without breaking the bank,

No need for the C4 Pro as I retro fitted my Sena

This is the third Schuberth helmet I have purchased, having gone from the C2, to the C3 and now the C4. Having a large and slightly unusually shaped head, I have found many helmets uncomfortable and give me a headache. These helmets fit well, snugly but not uncomfortably. The drop-down sun visor is great, as is the flip-up chin section. The visor comes with an excellent anti-misting coating although this does wear off with time (don't clean the visor with anything other than warm water otherwise you'll strip this off!). My only regret is that the ability to click the visor forward a notch to increase ventilation, which was a feature of the C2, was dropped with the C3.

I tried a few helmets that were cheaper than the Schuberth but once you put it on your head you can feel the difference. I initially bought the C4 Pro but didn't realise that it came pre installed with speakers and mic preventing the use of your own comms which to be honest isn't made clear in the manufacturers brief. I wasnt tonsure about getting the Matt black at first but love it. Excellent service and delivery as always from SBS.
