Verified Customer Reviews for R&G Racing DIY Moulded Ear Plugs

4.2
41 reviews
Our customers say…
Customers find these ear plugs easy to mould, offering a great custom fit. However, many recommend using less putty than instructions suggest, splitting it into four parts instead of three. This adjustment significantly improves comfort and prevents dislodging when putting on helmets. They excel in noise reduction, particularly for wind and engine noise, while maintaining good communication. Some find the material slightly hard, but overall, reviews highlight their effectiveness and ease of use.

Excellent sound proofing

Good when fitted correctly, small ear canals so enough for 4 plugs and still extra.

Too big for tight helmets
20 August 2024 by Allan H
The kit comes with enough dough to make 3 ear plugs (as per the manual), so you use one for practice. This is extremely useful as my first attempt was terrible. Once you mould it to your ears, it feels very comfortable and seems to block the sound OK (but I haven't tried it).

The issue that I have is with how this earplug requires a lot of stuff outside your ear canal. All that extra stuff prevents me from using it comfortably with my tight racing helmet. And it's not a case of me using too much of the initial dough, as I took a Dremel and I removed as much material as I could without removing the parts that secure the earplug to the ear. While the Dremel mod allowed me to put on the helmet, it was fairly uncomfortable. In the end I threw it away and went back to earplugs that sits inside the ear canal.

Effective sound proofing
08 June 2024 by Thomas
These are perfect for noise reduction and are not intrusive like in ear plugs.

There easy to make up and as other's suggest, use half the amount recommended, ie one ball of each colour.

Using the instructed amount fills up the ear and as a result the plugs dislodge when putting on or taking off one's helmet.

There's enough putty to experiment with sizes.

Great but way too much
31 January 2023 by Kevin P
I found I have quite small ears so made 2 pairs with the mix, you would have to have massive ears to need it all for 1 pair, easy to make and step by step instructions, I've found it doesn't matter what I use it's quite noisy at motorway speeds but not wondering if it's my helmet not the plugs.

Brilliant earplugs - easy to fit and comfy to wear
30 May 2022 by Becky L
I have always struggled with standard plugs that are the same size as I have very different inner ear shapes/sizes! I was a bit dubious about how easy these would be to make/fit but I needn't have worried. As other people have said, I split the orange/white goo into four pieces which made the plugs the correct size for my ears. The whole making process took about an hour in total. I wore the plugs for the first time properly this weekend and they are great - easy enough to put in and remove and great at blocking vibration/engine/wind noise but I can still hear my husband through the comms. I wore them for about 7hrs in total yesterday alone and they were only just starting to get uncomfortable but all in all a really great pair of ear plugs!

Comfortable, but not the quietest
20 May 2022 by Harry S
Using less than recommended, but the same as other reviewers here. Relatively simple to make and shape. comfortable, but I found the in ear style plugs to be quieter. With a newer helmet, I would probably use these as they are so comfortable...next purchase I guess!

Best ear plugs I've ever used
18 August 2021 by Julius B
Really comfortable and a good reduction in noise. But do read the other reviews and take the advice to split the goo into 4 balls. Initially one of the plugs was still a little large and touched the helmet, but some careful surgery with a new razor blade sorted this. I've been using earplugs for 30+ years and theses are excellent.

Very good buy, impressive
28 July 2021 by Len
Read on a previous review that you need to split into four equal balls and not three as the instructions say. As splitting into three you will have too much material. Therefore splitting into four I had enough to make too sets.
Out with the above the instructions are clear and simple to follow. Been wearing them a week now with two longe rides.

These work really well and would recommend block out more noise than the m3 disposable ear plugs- not scientifically proven but result of actual use. And further more they don't move about if you make em right.

Only negative is that once set the material could be a little less hard and more soft/rubbery. As if you don't seat right in the ear can result in pressure pain. Will probably get some more to experiment with. And the plastic holders for the materials, if this was a little bigger would make the perfect carry case, then no need for fabric bag thats not much use. Len.

Decent

Decent ear plugs, easy to do. Don't sit very nicely under the helmet though...use slightly less product than they suggest!

Does the job
18 May 2021 by Adam M
I've always struggled with getting a good deal on regular ear plugs but these fit perfectly every time. Easy to mould and they are a bright enough colour that I don't lose them when I'm getting ready in the dark. They also come with a little storage pouch which is handy.

2nd go
30 December 2020 by Colin
1st set were to large in the ears when I put my helmet on. 2nd go I mixed less than the recommended quantity of the moulding solution to make smaller ear pieces. Much better for me. Excellent fit now

DIY Ear plugs
19 November 2020 by Colin
Tried this process for first time. For a more permanent earplug. The instructions are clear enough other than why you split into 3 pieces. I found out! The 1/3 plug was too large a piece for my little ear. Consequentially when i put on the helmet the earplugs became uncomfortable. I could have made two sets from the moulding material.

Not great
18 September 2020 by Gaz
I picked a set of these up recently. The moulding process is easy and straight forward managed to get a really good fit with all of the plugs. Although they seemed to stop a lot of noise whilst sitting on the couch when actually used riding they performed worse than the cheap disposable foam plugs. I haven't thrown them out but I will not be using them unless I have no other choice.

Super Comfortable
10 August 2020 by Laurence P
Have made loads of purchases from Sportsbikeshop, all of which have been straight forward and hassle free, always very helpful. These earplugs were no exception, very comfortable, good value, good noise reduction, can hear my bike better with them in. Highly recommended.

What a differnce
07 July 2020 by Neel
Great product. You must follow the instructions to get a good fit, (apart from one bit. Read on). I bought a second batch as the first ones I created were not great, either in fit, sound isolation or comfort. The instructions tell you to split each cloloured mould into 3 balls. Split them into 4 balls. This means once you combine them, the overall mould is slightly smaller. But this allows you to create a much better seal, a more secure fit and better sound insulation. Now I've got them created, they are awesome. Perfectly comfortable, (I forget I'm wearing them), never fall out when I take my helmet off, and stay in place no matter how much I turn my head, move my jaw, etc. And of course sound isolation is great. Can still hear emergency vehicles, vehicle horns, etc, but no more ringing ears when I get home.

Great for little ear canals.
22 May 2020 by Andrew B
Ear canal small. Normal plugs don't fit. These mould and fit into your ears. Had help putting them in from my partner and had so much gloop left we made her a set as well. I find them comfortable to wear and block out nearly all wind and most of the engine noise. Instructions easy to follow. A great product.

The right choice
21 May 2019 by Alan
Couldn't get on with cheap foam plugs, tried several more expensive options, worried these would be difficult to get right - don't be put off, with someone to help it is really easy and they work well
