Merlin Platinum Laminated Waterproof Over Jacket - Black

This Merlin Platinum waterproof over-jacket was purchased as a set with the matching over-trousers.

I found that the XL size was the best fit for my 1.85m frame and 90kg size. I wanted a combination that works over my full winter riding gear and also my summer kit and the XL manages to achieve this thanks to the cut and adjustability, without having too much excess fabric.

The material has a soft cotton-like feel, which is much nicer than the PU coated waterproofs out there and water beads straight off. There are some discrete high-viz details and logos.

I liked the taped seams, the mesh lining, the adjustability and the fit for riding.

The jacket comes with a good sized carry bag and packs down to a reasonable size. The XL size weighs in at 616g.

I considered a few other brands before settling on this jacket and thought this had the best overall quality and functionality for the money.

Lightweight with good quality seams, zips and cuffs. As mentioned by other reviewers, chose one size up.

I bought this on the back of an earlier purchase of a Merlin summer jacket that performed brilliantly on a tour on the continent this year. I'm pleased to say that SBS were their usual brilliant, efficient selves and it arrived very quickly. This jacket is clearly a quality product, but at time of writing not a drop of rain to test! Go up one size for a perfect fit over your normal jacket.
