I previously used the standard generic Kriega OS harness on my 890 with a couple of modifications on a serious off road trip over 10 days and it held up very well. In fact, I think that it sits better than this specific system as it carries the weight much lower.
However, lower means that it gets covered in crap far more and in high water crossings the bottoms were dragging in the water.
Seeing how my mates proper OS Base on his 890 was always cleaner at the evening stops, I decided to get the same 890 specific harness to attach my OS18 bags and not worry about the higher centre of gravity.
As with all Kriega products, the quality is right up there.

Purchased the kirega base after many a good review on its product . Will go along with the 0s 18 bags for my month long tour of Europe on & / off road .

Kriega OS Base - KTM 790 Adventure
The OS-Base is an 'over the seat harness' which allows OS-6, OS-12 or OS-18 Adventure Packs to be mounted as soft panniers. No heavy metal frames are required, this system provides a super-tough, lightweight carrying solution for the KTM 1050, 1090, 1190 & 1290 with no drilling or permanent bodywork alterations to the bike.
The modular design enables you to modify your luggage set-up to suit your ride - from a day's single track to longer moto-camping adventure trips.
The KTM Rack Loops included attach to the bike's baggage carrier/rear rack and provide four optional hook-on points. Used in conjunction with the additional loops on the OS-Base they provide various mounting points for a three or more bag set-up, or can be used to mount an OS-Pack as a stand-alone tail pack without the OS-Base.
The set length straps make mounting a breeze and the purpose-designed main body shape provides a tight, secure fit with plenty of distance from the exhaust. It takes less than a minute to mount the system to the bike and just seconds to remove it.
