The quality is good. I would suggest that if you're looking at getting a Givi top box check the specs out. The top box is rated to 10kgs at 120km/h but the specific base plate is rated to 6kgs.

Usual Givi quality - used their kit for years! As others have said, fit it loosely until it's all in place, then tighten up the fitting screws. Don't forget you'll need to a a fitting plate to suit your particular top box.

This rack allowed me to carry over my M9 plate from my previous bike.
My advise is to loosely assemble all the parts on to the bike before finally tightening. This will allow easier access to the two support bracket bolts below the existing BMW rack frame. This made a really solid mounting for my large Trekker top box.

Givi is not very clear on why you'd need this rack. The extra support it has is reassuring. But the reports online of corrosion don't sound very nice. But it works, so 4 stars.

I bought this at the same time as a Givi top box. I had rung previously and asked if the top box would fit straight on the existing BMW rack. I was told it would if the rack was flat. I bought this rack on the basis that I would return it if it wasn't needed. I could probably have fitted the top box on the rack without this, but it would have been more difficult and less secure involving bolts and large washers. This was so simple to fit and is made for the Givi mounting plates so all the holes are where you want them to be.
What I would say though is if you can buy a BMW top box the size you want, you may be able to fit it straight on the rack that comes with the bike and would probably cost the same as the top box / rack combination. The problem with BMW luggage, as far as I am aware, is they didn't do the size I wanted (around 37 litre or a couple of litres either side). The bike is not big and a massive top box would look hideous and the small ones don't have enough capacity!
