This is my second "Rider", very good and intuitive to use, free updates as required, Been around for a while now, maybe an update required...
Accurate and good quality.
I had to return the first 550 Rider I received as the screen had condensation after a couple of dry rides. Sportsbikeshop replaced it immediately - fantastic customer service as usual.
The replacement is working well so far. Easy set up, clear display and connectivity to phone and headset. All the maps I'll ever need included. Fingers crossed as regards screen condensation.
Great sat nav easy to fit, screen is easy to see and use, connecting to phone was easy and good display. Great price from sportsbikeshop and quick to arrive and once again Great service
Oh have I been around in circles bought one of these in 2019 didn't really have a dedicated route planner so struggled. Sold it when I got a BMW navigation 5/6 that was garbage, bought a Garmin XT and had started to use Myroute app.
Sold the XT used my phone but screen goes wild when it rains ? gone back to Tomtom rider 550 simple clear accurate and reliable you don't need all the bells and whistles just something reliable.

This is a good product. It is solid and has an easy to read screen. But, it does not cover all of the 'world' despite being described as 'World'. For example, there is no map for any part of Mongolia or Sri Lanka
Great product easy to use, doesn't drop out of signal unlike phones or factory sat navs.

Been using TomTom for over 30 years as a delivery driver. This just adds the amazing "plan a thrill" to your arsenal. Ive been on roads I didn't know existed!! You can set the curves & hills to your own liking from 1-3 and it gives you a fantastic ride, or you can go direct on Motroways, the best of both world's. SBS were by far the best price and delivered the next day. Superb all round
Very easy process from start to finish. Great website with honest reviews. Item (Tom Tom Rider 550) was delivered in perfect condition the following day after I placed my order. It was easy to set up, and the brackets that were included were simple to fit. The price was very good compared with many other places. Very happy ?
First time I've bought a bike sat nav. Looked at all possibilities and settled on this one due to the excellent reviews.
SB shop were selling them at the best price too.
I was unlucky to get two duff devices at first. The first had condensation inside, making the screen invisible in bright light. The warranty replacement then wouldn't take a charge from the dock. The third device is now fitted and works fine.
It's a great navigation aid. Good size, clear screen, good route planning and the 'Plan a Thrill' feature is fun to use for finding new and unusual routes. Traffic alerts, speed camera warnings and petrol station icons are useful. Easy to figure out how to use. Much, much better than my previous setup (a mobile phone running Waze). I have wired the TomTom into my switched live circuit so it comes on and off with the ignition.
I'm giving the device 4 stars due to the teething problems with the first two units. The SBS warranty process was excellent, they worked hard to get me a device that worked properly. An easy five stars for the warranty team.
This satnavs is easy to use, finding locations is simple and give me a choice of routes. Best to use with the mydrive app. Great product.
Always use tom tom in the car and camper now I have this for the bike and it's brilliant. Pair to the phone and the helmet easy and transferred routes.
Had a TomTom 400 which finally died after about 7 years due to water ingress which damaged the screen. 550 is quicker and the battery seems to be better. Early days but I'm pleased with purchase and usual great service from SBS
I read a few negative reviews on line but this is a great Tomtom.
I use the plan.tomtom.com page on my laptop to plan routes. It uploads them straight to the device.
The option to choose a twisty route on the actual device is great too. I've already had some brilliant rides out with it.
Also, comes with the cable to wire to the bikes electrics.
This is a fantastic product with a good size display that can be used portrait or landscape. Connects easily to phone and headset. Fitting was very easy as was map updates which can be done through WiFi without having to plug into a pc. The unit can be either wired direct to the bike or plugged into a 12v accessory socket via the USB cable supplied.
The device is easily attached and removed to the mount and feels very secure. Overall it's ticked all the boxes for me.

What s the difference between the TomTom Sat-Nav Rider 550 Premium and the 550 World?
January 9, 2023The unit itself is the same (550), however the Premium version comes supplied with an additional car mounting kit, RAM anti-theft solution, and a protective carry case, as well as the motorcycle mount, and the RAM mounting kit that are supplied with the World.
With the Rider 550 World will there be everything in the box so that it can be wired to the bike and fix the bracket to the handlebars and its ready to go or will I to purchase other bits of kit to get it up and running?
November 26, 2019We can confirm that all the accessories needed to install/fit the device to your motorcycle is provided in the box. These include the motorcycle mount, RAM mount and fitting kit, USB charging cable, motorcycle power cable, user guide etc.
Does the device have to be hard wired or is there a built in battery? If there is a battery, how long is the battery life on standard resolution and use?

I have my tom tom 450 wired up and mounted on a gps stand on my Kawasaki z1000sx. If i bought this product would the fitment be the same, ie could i just pop it straight onto the existing electronics?
March 29, 2019The 550 uses the same mount and connections as the 450, so it should fit and fire straight up!
Please can you tell me if I have to have a smartphone - or any mobile, come to that - to receive live traffic info with the Tom Tom, or will it just be received by the unit? Thanks.
March 1, 2019The Rider 550 needs to be connected to a Smartphone to receive live data. Smartphone Connected devices use your existing smartphone data plan to access TomTom Traffic as well as other services like TomTom Speed Cameras and TomTom MyDrive by connecting to your smartphone using Bluetooth.
Does the device need to be connected to a power source when in use & does it come with usb lead?
January 29, 2019This Sat-Nav must be connected to the motorcycle mount provided when in use on the motorcycle. This Sat-Nav does include a USB data cable.
I keep seeing routes posted on motorbike sites such as Ride magazine as gpx files. Will these upload directly to the satnav? Also, is it waterproof to Scottish weather??
January 16, 2019You will be able to download motorcycle routes to your laptop or PC and then upload them to your TomTom Rider using the USB cable. There are two types of files that you can import. GPX files and ITN files. GPX files will appear in the 'tracks' menu and the ITN files will appear in the 'routes' menu. TomTom state that this device fully Waterproof.
Does The satnav require a paying subscription per annum for update of speed cameras etc
January 7, 2019This Sat-Nav comes with Lifetime speed cameras as standard and you will therefore have to pay no subscription fees. However please note that Lifetime is the useful life of the device, which means the period of time that TomTom continues to support your device with either software updates, services, content or accessories. A device will have reached the end of its useful life when one or more is no longer available or if no updates have been downloaded to the device for a period of 36 months or more.

Smartphone Connected devices use your existing smartphone data plan to access TomTom Traffic as well as other services like TomTom Speed Cameras and TomTom MyDrive by connecting to your smartphone using Bluetooth.
Can you add multiple place/point markers when planning a route so you can navigate through the exact roads and places you want to? Also,can you plan a round trip?

August 9, 2018Info below taken from the Tom Tom website: France TomTom s service in France is certified to be 100% legal. Instead of warning for exact locations of cameras, TomTom warns for Danger Zones around any potential danger, including cameras.
