Shad Top Box Fitting Kit W0GS13ST - BMW R1200 GS

It is possible to fit a Shad box (using it's own mounting plate) on a standard GS rear rack using long M8 allen bolts but if you carry a pillion space is tight. Using this mounting bracket moves the box back a further 8cm (or 3").

Mine came finished in black and is of good quality that still looks good even with the top box removed.

Supplied as two solid steel plates (painted black) that bolt on to the BMW R1250GS (Not GS Adventure) rear luggage rack. You then bolt the plastic SHAD top case base plate that came with the SHAD top case on to it (I have the Shad SH58X Top Case). All fitted together OK in around 10 min. I also bought the Shad Terra Top Case Aluminium Plate - D1BTRPA to use instead of the black plastic SHAD base plate included with the top case as I preferred the looks of the aluminium design. Very solid, I would buy again. If you have the GS Adventure as opposed to the GS the SHAD Plastic base plate that comes with the Shad Top Case will fit directly on to the BMW GSA steel luggage rack so you would not need this item, this item is for the GS.

Initially was a bit surprised at the price (£56) for a top box fitting kit for my R1200GS.

However on examination the kit if anything, is over-engineered.

Shad have used 3mm steel plate , looks laser cut with the edges pressed over and carefully radiused and finished off in black powder coat crackle finish. Additionally there are 4 captive nuts to interface with the bolts from the top box plate.

To fit it I had to loosely assemble the bolts and pull the two plates apart to enable the bolts to line up - everything fits , but it's tight.

All in all a good product and certainly heavy duty. You will not bend this part !

I was not expecting the quality of this top box / luggage plate.
Really well finished and milled, substantial yet good looking.
I wanted to use the variable size Shad top box on my GS, with a better look than the standard plastic mount, when the box was off. Excellent
