Verified Customer Reviews for Interphone Ridesync Smartphone Connection System
I purchased this item a couple of weeks ago and fitted it to the bike and found the locking mechanism where it attaches to the bracket a little clunky and awkward at times. The product description also states that the touchscreen can be operated with wearing Bike gloves which I have very difficult as the icons are very small. I have checked in settings to see if they can be made bigger without success.
Have used the Ridesync for 2.5k miles both rain, dry, hot ish and cold. Unit works well. Screen is a good size for nav. Touch screen is responsive but doesn't like dry leather gloves ( takes a few taps to get a response). Icons are too small for glowes but inlm sure a software update could sort this. Best bit is being able to remove the unit from the bike.. great for the money. Recommend.
Great product
As an Android Auto headunit it works well. The clamp is good, well made. Screen is okay, bright enough. It could be better if it was 6 inches, but it is acceptable. Connenction is stable. Touch works with all gloves I have tried.
The functionality of this is exactly what you'd hope. It is Android Auto, or Carplay, exactly as it behaves in a car.
The touchscreen is capacitive not resistive like most motorcycle sat navs. It does just about work through summer gloves but not through winter gloves. The build quality of the unit itself seems great and the screen is not too reflective in the sun.
It comes with a decent bracket and two cables. One USB-A to USB-C and one for hardwiring to the bike. The hardwire cable has 3 wires (neutral, live and switched live. I suspect this is to stop the unit from resetting when you start the bike but for simplicity/laziness I ran both the live and the switched live to the same switched live socket, which made the wiring much easier but means the unit turns off when you start the engine. Not a deal breaker for me because it reconnects pretty fast.
The single biggest downside is that whichever power cable you use is a USB lead which goes in the side of the unit. It's a tight fit (for waterproofing) which makes it awkward to plug in and remove. Worse than that though it that, when the unit isn't in place, there is nowhere sensible to put the loose USB plug which flaps about and the "waterproof" plug cover is loose and unconvincing. If this had a cradle which supplies power (like a Garmin sat nav) it would be perfect. As it is I need to work out my own solution for where to put this plug when not using the screen, especially in the wet.
These are slightly nitpicky criticisms and I would recommend the unit but there is room for improvement in the second version of this product.
Excellent link to my phone allows me to use navigation maps/communication/music apps with ease. Touchscreen is very responsive and can be used with gloves. If the manufacturer wanted to improve the unit they should look at the possibility of enclosing the power unit into a holder, thus eliminating the exposure of the usb cable to the elements. (the entry point into the unit is good, albeit slightly difficult to constantly take in and out). Overall a very good link to my phone.
The build quality is excellent, and it feels durable enough to withstand the rigors of the road. The
performance during testing has been outstanding, with reliable and consistent. It's user-friendly, and
the design is sleek, fitting perfectly with the overall aesthetic of my bike.
However, it's a shame that it doesn't come with sufficient mounting options. I've had to order extra
accessories worth £50 just to secure it to my bike. If the manufacturer supplied some mounting
options with it, I would easily give it 5 stars.
Overall, this accessory has exceeded my expectations in terms of performance and design, but the
lack of included mounting options is a drawback.
It's got a lot going for it. There are several competitors, but this comes in at the sweet spot of everything I was looking for - a 5.5 inch screen is the right size for most bikes, it's easily removable when you park up, the software works properly without random disconnections, and sold by a reputable company gives you more reassurance if there was to be an issue. It's priced competitively and easy to set up, build quality is good too. I'm fed up of the phone quitting halfway through a ride on a sunny day because it's overheated or stopped charging - no such issues with this.
Only question from me is why it will only work with a USB A to C cable and not a C to C one.
Out of the box this system was somewhat confusing, there are instructions for mounting the device and pairing it with your phone but that is it, nothing about its operation and functionality. However, a bit of experimentation and it's soon figured out. *Note that this device only works when connected to a smartphone and also requires external power, it doesn't have a internal battery of its own. it cannot operate as a standalone unit ! As regards installation you can either use the provided usb cable if you have a USB socket on your bike or a hardwired cable (also provided) as regards the hardwired cable it requires black to ground, yellow to battery positive and red to a switched positive. If you use an accessory power management controller on your bike you can join the yellow and red wire together to allow your controller to initiate the device startup instead. Build quality is good and the device is quit ligh1t and not at all bulky. Reliability is also very good though I have trouble getting my Cardo 4X to communicate with it with Google assistant but this is purely a combination of my phone and Cardo headset settings and not the Ridesync device. I am very happy with the Ridesync overall but there are one or two things I would change if I could like the power connector not having an adequate cover to protect it from the rain when the Device is not connected and the Device not having a storage cover when not in use but overall its really good.
My bike, like most does not have Apple Play, nor Sat Nav, and I hate trusting my £1000 IPhone to a handlebar mounted case so I can have navigation etc. It just feels vulnerable as I travel around London.
So when I saw the Interphone Ridesync, I thought I'd give it a go.
And so glad I did. It's not heavy, but it's not feather light. It feels quality, and is complete with Quiklok mount, so can be removed easily. But this is a bit fiddlybecause of the USB2 lead is rubberised to prevent water ingress.
It mounted easily to the accessory bar, plugged the included lead in to the USB 2 socket, the other angled rubberised end in to the Ridesync, and followed the very easy install instructions, connecting via Bluetooth straight to my IPhone and Sena SRL2 without any issue. And re-connects each time I start my bike.
Now I have Sat Nav and can answer phone calls and listen to music without problem and can control it all from a screen in front of me whilst my phone remains safely in my bag in the top box.
Screen is clear and easy to read. Haven't used it in the rain as yet as amazingly it's been dry.
Can't comment on how it works with Android, but it sure works with Apple.
For a little over £200, I got a discount, Sat Nav, music, phone control. What else do you need.
Great piece of kit, hopefully it'll last.
What an innovative product! Now you can use any satnav app you want on your bike - Apple Maps, Google Maps, Scenic, HERE WeGo, Waze, etc.
Get notifications for new reminders, Messages and WhatsApps while you ride. If you ride with a Bluetooth headset you can control your music or podcasts make Siri / Ok Google commands or even answer phone calls. (I don't use a headset so haven't tested these features.)
The display is bright and easy to read even in sunlight. The unit itself is waterproof, so no additional case needed. With its Quiklox mounting system, it is so easy to unplug and put in your pocket when off the bike and it automatically reconnects to your phone when plugged back in.
Although it has a glove-friendly capacitive touchscreen, I've found this to be a bit hit-and-miss. Otherwise it is just about perfect - every bit as good as the in-car version of Car Play.
I found the device easy to set up, and use. I'm intending getting another mount, so I can use it in my car too.
The mounting is sturdy, easy to use, and snaps into position positively.
I don't like having a separate power connection, which I feel should connect automatically when mounting (like my GPS mount)
First up, this is not an independent Sat Nav and this is not a bad thing. It's stock Android Auto or Apple Car Play which means it runs via your Android or IOS device. After you've gone through the initial setup and linked the device to your phone you can start planning the route using your phones navigation app (I use both Google maps and Waze). It has no battery but again this is not necessarily a bad thing, once you fire up the ignition it will automatically connect to your smartphone (give it 30 seconds) and take over the route from your device. You can also plan routes from the Ridesync device once it has power from the ignition and is connected to your phone. Other apps such as Spotify work well and alerts such as Whatsapp messages also come through, although I've found only the new messages do. I believe it can also take "Ok Google" voice commands via a connected intercom but I'm yet to test that function. Great for older bikes without sat nav but this device will need power and, if on a longer journey, so will your phone. Standard USB cable and connections to take the Ridesync device to your bikes battery are included. I used in bright sunshine and on the Autobahn in driving rain and had no issues seeing the screen or with water ingress. Might not be the best option for the less Tech savvy but I'm no genius and found it quite intuitive.
