R&G Racing Classic Crash Protectors - Suzuki SV650 S

The instructions were great but even without them it was very simple to install. The product seems to be great quality. It fit exactly in the lower fairing without any issues. This can be easily installed without a torque wrench. These come with a special aluminium bracket that aligns everything down to the millimetre.

Competitive pricing and great quality as you would expect.

Whilst I have not tested if these work, and hopefully won't have to, they seem to be well made.

Slight panic on offering up the brackets to the frame and finding they didn't fit, only to discover they are handed and the bolts that they were assembled to in the box are not necessarily the ones for that side of the frame! Bolt length is covered in the instructions though so no chance of incorrect assembly.

I did find that my socket binded on the side of the bracket after I had tightened the big nuts and was a bit tricky to pull/wiggle off again but that could just be my sockets.

The nuts do bottom out on the through bar on the one side meaning you end up with more thread coming through the nylock on one side that the other which concerns me a bit. Maybe a couple of more turns on the thread cutter would be better to sandwich the mounting bolt evenly?

Only vagary is when it comes to attaching the protectors themselves - 'tighten until some compression is felt, tighten a bit more and then a quarter turn. Do not exceed 40nm.' Would it not be possible to just specify a torque figure to tighten them to to avoid the rather ambivalent 'felt compression'?

Whatever you think about the fitting instructions however these protectors are a huge improvement over the standard Suzuki things and they just screw onto the end of the (flimsy) fairing mounting brackets. The R&G's on the other hand are bolted directly to the frame via the engine mounting bolts and pass through the fairing, sandwiching it between the protectors and their brackets.

Oh and the torque figures for the engine bolts are 93nm for the long through-bar and 55nm for the front bolts...

Finally, and this is nothing to do with the R&G bits, I experienced no problems removing the original bolts as there was very little corrosion on there. I understand problems can be experienced with dissimilar metal corrosion in this area but this is more to do with the bike's condition and age.

I bought these after my bike fell of its side stand and the original Suzuki crash protector bracket snapped damaging my fairing (they're only tubular steel). I chose the R&G's as the design is significantly better with two mounting points and heavy duty brackets. Fitting them was easy enough for an amateur as full instructions were included, the biggest problem I experienced was removing the engine bolt from my bike (2005 reg).

Very nice quality equipment. All parts nicely engineered and made. Feels solid. The only complaint I got was the instructions. It would be so much easier if they would put one drawing where all the parts are going. Because in reality it is as easy to install as it looks looking at the parts, but when you start reading instructions it starts to look like rocket science. R&G Keep it simple.

Great product, really nice quality, very simple to fit instructions are easy to follow.
If you own a Pointy SV and have full lower fairings BUY THESE, the OEM ones in the kit are RUBBISH.
