Oxford Big Black Bike Rear Paddock Stand
Maximum stability and support paddock stand
DetailsVerified Customer Reviews for Oxford Big Black Bike Rear Paddock Stand
The choice of paddock stands was great and I ended up purchasing the Oxford big black bike paddock stand along with the Oxford bobbin forks set.
Combined purchasing both were cheaper than some of the alternatives and because the stand comes with the standard swing arm adapters it's better value for money in my opinion, not to mention adaptable for older bikes without bobbin fitments.
Having used it this past weekend to maintain the chain, I can say it's easy to use and very sturdy which is great if you're worried about the bike toppling over. Highly recommend.
Good quality stand for home use.
Easy to put together.
I use mine for basic chain maintenance and cleaning. Would give 5 stars if it came with bobbin hooks as standard, instead of having to buy them separate.
Overall very happy with this stand.
Can't fault Sportsbikeshop fast delivery and best price.
Reliable paddok stand for my suzuki bandit 600, which make life very easy to do the routine works on your motorcycle. Great service by SBS delivered ontime.
Big Black Bike paddock stand.
OK, let's get this out of the way immediately. The Oxford Branded, "Big Black Bike" paddock stand is the "Budget" version from their range. It is modestly priced, built down to a price point and the overall look of the stand reflects that. It is very easy to complain about the quality of anything when comparing side by side it to a much more costly item. I've seen poor reviews based on the "Stickers" not being straight on the stand! Please give a thought to the poor girl or chap in a factory somewhere, whose only job, is sticking thousands of stickers on stands as they pass down the assembly line, all day every day! If you are looking for a stand to use in a commercial / garage operation, this is not for you. If you are looking for a race / track day stand that you will have your Moto GP bike, on and off of it, 25 times a day, this is not for you! Also, if you have twin or single low slung side exhausts running parallel to and close to the swinging arm, this will not be a stand for you. However, if you are a home mechanic; you need to clean your chain on your off road or trail type bike, once a month, or you need to keep the back wheel up for a period of storage the this will fit the bill. (Note. It would not fit the swing arm on my Benelli Imperiale 400, as the exhaust was too close to get the support pads in.)
Oxford sell a very much sturdier stand for an accordingly higher premium price and this may well be easier to use. Before buying the stand, I read a lot of negative reviews and honestly some horror stories. I'm not deaf to these criticisms but decided to make my own judgment having also read some good reviews.
This is my take on the product, "Big Black Bike" paddock stand. (As a person who has been working on motorbikes, on and off, since the 1970s!)
The stand is made down to a budget but is perfectly strong enough for light home use. The tubing is adequate for the task and the welding is such that it is properly welded and sturdy. Trust me when I say that you could not manufacture this stand in a home workshop fr the price they are selling it for! The bolt together joints are well formed and the clamping action of the bolt-through fittings are perfectly capable of holding the stand together firmly. The parts are easy to assemble and the instructions are simple to read and understand. The rear swing arm pads are wide and their soft face pads will not damage the bike while lifting it. The stand itself is wide enough to support the bike safely on a flat surface. The action of lifting the bike, (My Aprilia Tuareg 660.) was pretty easy, even at my advanced age! If I have any comment to make, it would be to suggest a couple of M6 x 60 bolts and a couple of plastic/alloy bobbins be added to the kit to safely locate the swinging arm pads against the swinging arm to prevent any slipping while lifting.
The difficulty with using any cantilever type stand is that the bike wants to tip over when it is unsupported. I think that some of the reviewers have been putting their bikes up on the stand for the very first time, without the aid of a helper. This in my experience is not always a recipe for success. You can blame the stand that your bike fell over but it is not always the fault of the stand. Perhaps the manufacturer or retailer could make this point to first time users and save everyone a lot of heartache.
I bought this in preference to buying the very much more expensive, OE Manufacturer, Centre Main stand for my specific bike and it works perfectly for the task I bought it for. I've given a 5* rating as for the modest price, it works properly and completely fulfilled my expectations.
Really pleased with this. Ordered and delivered within 24 hrs. Great service as usual.
Great service from SBS, parcel arrived in good time undamaged. The stand is easy to assemble, well made components which look like they will last.
I already have front stand and with both I'm able to easily lift my CB650R off the ground on my own.
This makes cleaning and general maintenance much easier.
Sturdy and substantial parts. Easy to assemble.
It didn't quite fit my triumph america , out of the box, a little too narrow to fit 'outside' the twin exhausts. Just a small tweak required, all good
Great service, Easy assembly, Good quality and design. Real help for an old man!
Very sturdy, great quality. Pleased with purchase
For the price it's really good. Does the job and feels pretty solid. Can't really ask for much more than that.
Would recommend.
Works perfectly for my 790 Duke and feel solid and very stable.
Would recommend it fully.
'Does what it says on the tin' perfect and easy set up. Great for my Triumph Scrambler 1200.
Good stand, easy to assemble and use. It also has strong rubber fittings so it doesn't damage the bike. Good price, great service from sbs as usual would definitely recommend.
Perfect for both my bikes, does exactly as wanted. Would have been useful to have had spool (bobbin brackets) brackets included rather than an extra. Overall though good value for money with excellent service as always from Sportsbikeshop.
Bought this to use with my Kawasaki Z650. Also got the Y-type brackets to use with the bobbins to make cleaning easier.
It's an exceptionally well made peice of kit that's easy to use. It can easily hold the 188kg of my bike and lifts it a good few inches off the ground. Lifting it down is a little awkward to do the first time. The double wheels add to the easy both with lifting and lowering again. If you can get someone to hold the bike upright while lifting and lowering it is recommended.
Easy assembly and solid, the wheels are a little wobbly but ok. If you have lift pins on your swing arm you would be better to order the lift forks which are available as extras. Good service again from SBS.
