HJC are replacing their hugely popular IS-17 model for 2019 by introducing the new i70.
The sporty budget lid has won an army of fans since its launch in 2013 because it offers an array of essential features at a highly competitive price.
But all good things come to an end, and HJC believe the new i70 will deliver even sharper performance for the money.
The i70’s shell is more compact than the outgoing IS-17, which isn’t exactly a bloater.
There’s a revised top vent to pull in more cooling air and drag the warm air away from the helmet interior.
A new chin vent has five air intakes for even more cooling and a rear exhaust vent includes an aerodynamic spoiler to boost stability.
The lid will feature a new visor, the HJ-31m, which promises a wider field of view and an extra 10mm at the top of the eye port compared to the IS-17.
The new visor has a centrally located locking tab, which is similar to the IS-17, but HJC say the new one is stronger and more waterproof than the one it replaces.
A significant change is the relocation of the sun visor lever to the base of the helmet, as found on more expensive models. This is likely to be easier to operate and it means less additional material on the shell itself, which can create extra wind noise.
The new lid has a polycarbonate shell with removable comfort lining and a sporty D-ring strap fastener. The visor keeps the anti-fog insert included with the IS-17 too.
The glasses groove to make life easier for spec wearers has also been widened to create extra room for the arms.
The new lid comes in two shell sizes, one covering XS-M and the other for L-XXL.
HJC Europe showed the new model at the Intermot show in Cologne with 19 different graphic designs and key plain colours – gloss white, fluo yellow, satin black and gloss black. The galleries above slide through the colours, though it’s possible the UK won’t get every colourscheme.
The recommended retail price in the UK is expected to be £199.99 for the graphic designs and £179.99 for the plain colours.
