Advice: Putting a helmet on without long hair getting in your eyes

Fed up of swiping hair to one side so you can see? Check out our tips on how to avoid it

Any rider with long hair knows the issue of having it fall over their eyes when they put a bike helmet on.

Rather than tucking it to one side and hoping it stays there, follow our tips for keeping it out of the way and ensuring clear vision every time.

Necktubes aren’t just for necks

Roll up a neck tube and put it over your head. Pull back your hair and use the necktube to hold it in place.

Keep it back

Make sure the necktube is as far back as it will go while still holding your hair in place. You’ll need the end to protrude from the back of your helmet once you’ve put it on.

Put a lid on it

Put your helmet on as you normally would, leaving the necktube inside to hold your hair in place inside the lid.

Pull from the rear

Grasp the end of the necktube that’s emerging from the rear of your lid and pull it entirely free. Your hair will now be swept back inside the lid and won’t obstruct your vision.
